Guisados Information

Tucked along E Cesar E Chavez Avenue, Guisados brings a vibrant slice of Los Angeles’ Eastside food culture to life, and it’s the kind of spot that keeps pulling you back with the promise of rich, slow-cooked flavors. The location at Guisados feels casual and unpretentious, with a steady stream of locals who clearly know exactly what they’re here for.

The menu is refreshingly focused, built around braised stews served as tacos on freshly made corn tortillas. Each filling has its own personality, from the deep, slightly smoky cochinita pibil to the tender bistek en salsa roja that carries just the right amount of heat. One standout that’s hard to forget is the chicharrón in green salsa, where the pork simmers until it soaks up every bit of tangy, spicy flavor. Portions aren’t huge, but that’s part of the charm-you’re meant to mix and match, trying a few different tacos in one sitting.

There’s something about the texture of those tortillas that elevates everything. They’re soft, slightly thick, and clearly handmade, giving each bite a satisfying chew that you just don’t get from standard street tacos. Even something simple like the frijoles or calabacitas feels thoughtfully prepared, not like an afterthought.

Service tends to be quick and efficient, especially considering how busy it can get during peak hours. The line often moves fast, and the staff is usually happy to guide first-timers through the menu, which is helpful if you’re not familiar with the different guisados. The atmosphere leans toward lively rather than cozy, with a steady buzz of conversation and the occasional clatter from the open kitchen.

From a reviews perspective, this place consistently earns praise across platforms like Yelp and Google for its authenticity and flavor consistency. It’s not trying to be fancy or reinvent Mexican cuisine-it sticks to traditional methods and lets the quality of the ingredients and preparation do the talking. Prices are reasonable for Los Angeles, especially given the quality, making it an easy recommendation whether you’re grabbing a quick lunch or introducing someone to classic homestyle tacos.

The only minor drawback is that seating can be limited, especially during busy hours, so you might find yourself standing or taking your food to go. Still, that barely registers once you’re a couple of bites into those deeply flavored stews wrapped in warm tortillas.

What People's Say About Place

These tacos are nothing like you usually see or taste but they are delicious. One of my favorite lunch places. I've been to all their locations and so far they all provide the same great quality.

Tacos made with love; each flavor delicious. Hit this place for brunch and pair four tacos on corn with a hibiscus juice. Can’t go wrong.

Tacos were good but not GREAT. Dollar to food value dismal.

This is a nice go to spot for guisado tacos, I recommend the pork belly and the chile relleno.

The food was amazing! The quesadillas were amazing and very simple. The seating area is not fancy. I visited at night and the whole block was a bit creepy. Try visiting before sunset, maybe it’s more lively.

“OMG, my sister recommended this restaurant as I picked her up from LAX, the food was authentic real Mexican food, beyond exquisite. The place gave me vibes of a fondita in Mexico, which I loved. The portions are perfect, the handmade tortillas were fire!! The quesadillas, beans and beef, chicharron guisado where delicious!!! Please try their pumpkin horchata!! The staff are so friendly too. I spent $40 on my sister and I. Well worth it!!!

2 coworkers and I came today to try this place, in my opinion I really loved the tacos, I had one steak taco and one zucchini , plus one cheese tamale. Didn't know the price, didn't want to ask, sometimes is embarrassing however we have rights to know the prices before but, it would be nice to see a price next to each item. And I ordered horchata with a shot of coffee. Tacos were really good, and tortilla was really good, I don't know if they make them right there, not sure I didn't see, but it'll be better to have 2 tortillas in each taco, other than that it was pretty good, the girl who was taking our orders is friendly and explained with details what i asked. Definitely going back again for something else

Great tacos. Sampler is very small tacos but I'd recommend it. Worst was the chicharron one so I'd sub that out with another steak one.
